Metal specialist Janos Korban and architect Stefanie Flaubert met while working in Germany and are currently based in Sydney, where they develop and produce experimental furniture.
Membrane is a product of this unique collaboration; a large tube of specially – created stainless steel mesh. Inspiration for the piece came from the natural world – Flaubert describes the look as "a flower stalk which lets in light and air".
The texture of the metal creates patterns reminiscent of snakeskin, plant structures or water. It highlights a need for designers to make innovative use of existing materials inthe spirit of protecting and preserving the natural environment.
